South Anchorage Eateries
When mealtime beckons, choose from a mix of national chains, like Red Robin, Raising Cane’s, and Texas Roadhouse, or locally-owned favorites. Little Dipper Diner dishes up classic comfort-food for breakfast and lunch, while Fire Island Rustic Bakeshop, Benji’s Bakery and Café, offer a variety of baked goods, soups, and sandwiches. For dinner, Uncle Joe’s Pizzeria is a favorite, while South Restaurant + Coffeehouse and Southside Bistro offer more upscale fare in a family-friendly atmosphere.
Outdoor Fun
For outdoor fun, residents can access the paved Campbell Creek Trail near the Dimond Fred Meyer; use it to connect to the city’s larger trail system. The Hillside trail system in Chugach State Park is just 15 minutes east, or bike the wide, paved path that runs along Klatt Road from 100th and Southport through the C Street roundabout.
Family Fun
For families, South Anchorage is an ideal location. Its schools consistently rank as some of the best in Anchorage, and there are plenty of recreational activities for kids. H2Oasis, located in the Castle at O'Malley, is Alaska’s only indoor waterpark, while the South Anchorage Sports Complex offers mountain views, a dog park, and new play equipment that includes a two-story red rope mountain for little daredevils to conquer.
Outdoor Living
Like the rest of Anchorage, the great outdoors are easily accessible from downtown. There are several access points to the paved and highly walkable Tony Knowles Coastal Trail. Enjoy views of downtown Anchorage, Denali, Mount Susitna, and Fire Island while watching for Belugas in Cook Inlet. Or make it a day and rent a bike from one of the rental shops for a trip to Kincaid Park.
